Details of Project
Why CTY School Club?
The Catch Them Young School Club was developed from insights gained through surveys and interactions with students during the Catch Them Young programme. It aims to deepen and sustain the core message of the CTY initiative.
In addition to reinforcing the key messages of the programme, the CTY Club promotes values such as self-awareness, personal development, and informed decision-making. Through a structured framework and curriculum, students gain a deeper understanding of the trends, dangers, and impacts of irregular migration and human trafficking. With training, learning activities, skills development, counseling, and role-modeling engagements with successful professionals, students are empowered to lead positive lives and challenge harmful narratives around migration and exploitation.
CTY Champions
The CTY school club is made up of students champions and volunteer teachers.
Student Champions: These club members will carry the CTY message to their peers and the broader society. They will receive CTY lapel pins and badges, along with access to career guidance, counseling services, and information on local and international study opportunities and sponsorships.
Volunteer Teachers: These individuals will manage club activities, undergo quarterly training on our curriculum, and hold monthly meetings with students. They will also wear CTY lapel pins to spread the message, meeting weekly with students and quarterly with us for feedback.
Together, we aim to build a network of change agents, ambassadors, and advocates saying no to irregular migration, human trafficking, exploitation, drug abuse, and other social vices while saying YES to building a brighter future. Our children’s lives matter, and our volunteers are the champions who support and illuminate this vision.
CTY School Clubs
The CTY School Club will also incorporate engaging and transformative initiatives, and sustainable practices to provide a holistic educational experience in alignment with SGD goals 4, 13, and 15.
Create a platform where successful Nigerian entrepreneurs share their journeys, offering practical insights and solutions. This platform will inspire and guide the younger generation, motivating them to pursue and achieve their entrepreneurial dreams.
The club will introduce students to sustainable agricultural practices through school garden projects. These initiatives will teach them how to grow food responsibly, highlight the importance of food security, and help them develop valuable skills in agricultural sustainability.
Students will engage in waste management and recycling programs, promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability within their communities. With a particular focus on tackling plastic pollution, a major issue in Nigeria, they will learn to convert everyday waste into valuable items and beautification projects.
The CTY Digital Library aims to enhance students’ educational experience by providing schools with access to a wealth of digital resources. This includes extensive learning materials and technology and ICT training to support learning, research, and skill development.
To prepare students for the digital future, the CTY Club will offer CISCO training, equipping them with essential IT skills. This will enhance their employability and create opportunities for further education and careers in technology.
