Why Catch Them Young?
The EHF Catch Them Young (CTY) programme is an outreach programme designed to empower children and young adults with essential information about migration, human trafficking, migration exploitation, child abuse & molestation, drug abuse, cultism and other risks associated with irregular migration while equipping them with the right information to make informed decisions. The “Catch Them Young” program aims to establish school clubs that would keep the message ongoing. These clubs not only educate students but also empower them to become advocates in their communities.
Key Components of the CTY Programme
Secondary School Outreach
This component focuses on educational sessions in secondary schools, where students are provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about migration. Topics include the dangers of irregular migration, legal pathways to studying abroad, and strategies for building successful futures within legal frameworks. The aim is to prepare young minds to navigate these critical issues responsibly.
Tertiary Institution Information Sessions
For students in tertiary institutions, EHF organizes information sessions designed to raise awareness about migration-related issues. These sessions highlight current migration trends, sought-after skills in international job markets, and opportunities for studying abroad. The goal is to equip students with the information they need to pursue opportunities while staying within legal boundaries.
School Clubs Initiative
A key aspect of the CTY Programme is the establishment of school clubs, which serve to keep the CTY message ongoing. These clubs not only continue to educate students on the critical issues discussed but also empower them to become advocates in their communities. By fostering leadership and advocacy skills, the clubs help students take an active role in promoting awareness and positive change within their schools and beyond.
Through these targeted efforts, EHF aims to create a ripple effect of informed decision-making and community advocacy, helping to protect and guide the next generation against the risks of irregular migration and other social challenges.
2nd Edition of Catch Them Young (CTY), 2011 programme agenda organized by Shell Women's Network (SWN)
“About 80 percent of students are at risk of contracting Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a disease that has claimed millions of lives worldwide, including in Nigeria.
This information was revealed at the 2nd Edition of the Catch Them Young (CTY) 2011 programme, organized by the Shell Women’s Network (SWN) and held recently in Lagos.
Over 500 secondary school students from 28 colleges attended the event at the MUSON Centre, Shell Hall, Onikan, with the theme “Your Future is in Your Hands.” The Shell Women’s Network is a volunteer organization comprising employees from Shell companies in Nigeria, aimed at providing a platform for professional development, mentoring, and growth.
Mrs. Sarah Ajose-Adeogun, National Coordinator of SWN, stated that the programme aims to inspire Nigerian youths to make positive choices in education, life partners, and their future. “By making a conscious decision today, despite obstacles, you can achieve your goals. Your future is in your hands, and the choices you make today will determine whether that future is good or bad,” she told the audience in her welcome address.”
